It is widely distributed in the southern and eastern regions of North China and is also commonly used as an ornamental tree species in gardens. The Chinese people have had a special affection for pine trees since ancient times. Pines and cypresses are often used as symbols of strength and resilience, and pine, bamboo, and plum are praised as the "three friends of the year and the cold". The pine family is the largest family of gymnosperms, consisting of 10 genera and 230 species, mainly found in the Northern Hemisphere. There are 113 species belonging to 10 genera in China, distributed throughout the country. The vast majority of them are forest and timber tree species, forming large forests in the high mountain areas of Northeast, North China, Northwest, Southwest, and South China. Some species can be used for resin harvesting, turpentine extraction, and other chemical raw materials. Some species have edible or medicinal seeds, while others can be used as landscaping tree species.
